Cytoplasm is a gel-like substance that fills the interior of cells. It is a complex mixture of water, ions, proteins, and other molecules that provide a medium for the biochemical reactions necessary for cell function. The cytoplasm is found in all types of cells, from prokaryotic to eukaryotic, and it is divided into two main regions: the cytosol, which is the liquid portion, and the organelles, which are the specialized structures within the cytoplasm that perform specific functions. Some of the organelles found in the cytoplasm include mitochondria, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, and the Golgi apparatus. The cytoplasm also plays a key role in cell movement, as it contains microfilaments and microtubules that help support the cell’s structure and facilitate the movement of organelles within the cell.
